About the artist:

Taiko Suzuki was born in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. After working as a graphic designer, she moved to the United States in 1969 and enrolled in the Philadelphia College of Art.

In 1971, she went to England to study printmaking at the Sir John Cass College of Art in London. She then returned to Philadelphia with a four year scholarship to pursue a diploma in printmaking and papermaking at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

When she graduated from the Academy, she was awarded a grant that allowed her to travel to anywhere in the world. That opportunity became a turning point in her subsequent artistic growth: she chose to return to Japan to study traditional Japanese papermaking techniques.

Invigorated by the experience, Ms. Suzuki moved to Vancouver, Canada, to enter a postgraduate program for printmaking and papermaking at Emily Carr College of Art. Upon finishing the program, she moved to Seattle WA, where she lives today.

She runs a studio in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, regularly shows at galleries around the world and has several pieces in both public and private collections in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
